Decleor Duds – The Big Toss

Beauty product bombs make me so sad.

I’ve been noticing old products decaying and taking up precious room in my cabinet. They’re all reminders of my caffeine induced impulse buys, wasted money, and dashed beauty aspirations! Creamy flawless skin! Wrinkles banished! All life problems miraculously solved by magical cream! I’ve kept these duds around cause its hard to admit defeat when all these freakin products cost both loads of money and time. Time to purge and move on with my regimen.

I came across a Decleor set many years ago (yes its been sitting around that long, 1/4 used). At that time I was excited to try their anti-pollution face cream, famed Neroli oil, and an anti-aging eye cream.

I tried the Hydra Floral Anti-Pollution cream for a week straight, broke out, and tried it again for another week just to make sure it wasn’t something else making me break out. Still broke out. In the back of my mind, I thought of trying it down the road… when perhaps my skin and body wouldn’t be so sensitive? Never happened and its sat well beyond its use-by date. The 2009 formulation (the only one I could find with the same label name) ranks a 9 a NINE on EWG for toxicity. Horrible! I was thinking of using the cream on my body to use it up and not waste it, but I think I’m better off scraping it into the trash.

The Hydra Floral eye cream doesn’t seem to do anything positive or noticeable for my eye area and makes my eyes water and itch. But is on the lower end of the toxin spectrum, ranking a 3 on EWG. I will finish it up on my neck to get rid of it.

Beyond two of the three products from this set not working for me, the ingredients in these Decleor products include several big no-no’s: Parabens, Retinyl Palmitate, TRIETHANOLAMINE, Lilial, and Geraniol.

The Neroli oil, among their other oils, is worth looking at, albeit expensive ($68+). Decleor serums tend to contain just the oils, no other additives, which makes them OK in my book. Neroli oil serum includes: Neroli, Sandalwood, Petitgrain, Sage, Parsley and Juniper Berry Essential Oils. I liked the scent, and found the oil to be somewhat hydrating and clarifying without being greasy.

This will be the first set of items to go in The Detox Witch Big Toss Challenge, 30 days of getting rid of a defunct beauty bomb every day. I’ll finish up the oil, but the others I’m committing to toss (as hard as it is!!)

PS I’ll be reusing or putting the empty containers in the recycling bin!

PPS This counts as Day 1 and Day 2 of The Big Toss. 28 more items to go!
