I’m getting one of my hypoallergenic buddies a little gift set from Pacifica. She was looking for an orange scent, but wants to stay away from the chemicals. Tuscan Blood Orange – Take Me There set is my first Detox Witch gift purchase!
Pacifica is a vegan fragrance line with an emphasis on using safe, natural ingredients. This is great for allergy sufferers or the chemically sensitive looking for a scent that doesn’t irritate. Their most benign line of products is their collection of solid perfumes; SkinDeep rates them at a 0.
Unfortunately the solid perfume is not in this particular bundle (sorry buddy!). It includes a body butter, lip tint, and fragrance roll on.
Tuscan Blood Orange Roll-On: comes in at a 4 on SkinDeep, which is not bad considering many fragrances come in at an 8-10. The score is due to the alcohol, which may be improperly listed as denatured alcohol. The bottle says grain alcohol, which might not have the same toxicity as denatured alcohol. I cannot find any information to support this however. Any chemists that can weigh in on this?
Tuscan Blood Orange Lip Tint: rated a 2, the bad chemicals included are Yellow 5 and a mysterious “flavor” category. I would like to think Pacifica would not use dangerous flavors due to their mission statement.
As for the scent, Tuscan Blood Orange is lovely and complex. It was not overly powerful and has hint of orange, spice, and a light sweetness. Target, Beauty.com and loads of other places carry this for around $18. Nice price for a little bit of low toxin aromas!
**The Body Butter is not listed on SkinDeep, but I give it a 3 rating based on punching in the ingredients at the bottom and getting their ratings. I bolded the ingredients that get 3-4 on SkinDeep for reference.
Body Butter: Aqua (water), caprylic/capric triglyceride, stearic acid (vegetable source), glycerin (vegetable source), fragrance (Pacifica’s own perfume blend with natural and essential oils), carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, glyceryl stearate (vegetable source), butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, stearyl alcohol (grain), polysorbate 60, mango butter, prunus amygdalus dulcis (almond) seed oil, rosa canina (rose hip) seed oil, organic aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, organic cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, organic arnica montana flower extract, organic chamomile flower extract, organic white tea extract, anacyclus, pyrethrum root extract, phenoxyethanol, benzyl alcohol, potassium sorbate, tocopherol, tocopheryl acetate, sodium carbomer, citric acid, betacarotene.
Orange is one of my favorite natural aromas. Pacifica is better than most, but still has a way to go. Phenoxyethanol is a cheap synthetic from China which is dangerous to the brain an nervous system, is a suspected carcinogen, and respiratory irritant and a suspected xenoesrogen. It can cause vomiting and contact dermatitis. The also have a few GMO ingredients.
So glad to have found your blog 🙂
